　　美國立國之初，深受英國式的清教之苦。

　　所謂「清教徒」，就是一群只知祈禱和禁食，依足教條做事的虔信者。清教徒是反對快樂的。在清教思想的統治之下，教徒必須規行矩步。

　　美國立國之初，規定了追尋快樂是人的基本權利，相信，就是來自對清教的反感。

　　只是無法想像，今日的「追尋快樂」，已經變成了吸毒、色情和放縱的代名詞。點擊率超過三百萬的一首流行曲，Kid Cudi 的作品： Pursuit of Happiness ，是很說明問題的。

　　如果美國人也好像印度人那樣，一早落入了相反思維之中，則往何處去，就像鐘擺那樣清楚了：只要往回走就是。
