How can it be successful when the Son of No-merit meets the Pig of Bajie?

Son of No-merit  孫悟空， 孫無功

Pig of Bajie  豬悟能， 豬無能，豬八戒， 豬白痴

Monk Sha  沙僧， 儍僧......they are a lot, like sands, never distinctive.

And that constitutes a grand imaginative novel in China:  A Journey to the West.

The names of the characters are interesting,  when the stories are absurd and childish.

How can they be successful in bringing back to China the Western wisdom? (Western holy books)?

And the only hero in the book is the Son of No-merit.
