Locust Problem

How should we human beings handle Locust problem?

It was a hot summer night in Hong Kong last year.  I was taking a good time to practice Qi Kung in the Hong Kong University Sports Center.  It was around 9 o'clock by the night. I observed that there were quite a few insects around the street lamps. Those were newly installed LED lights, bright and white. I had a laser pointer with me by then. I used it to spot the stars. However, I tried it on the insects. I burnt one which was crawling on the ground and see how it would react. It just stayed motionless at once. And then I tried it on the flying insects around the street lamps. But they were too fast, I spotted nothing.  I saw only a beam of laser light moving in the air.

I searched in vain for around 10 minutes and I decided to give up. Half an hour later, when I packed my things and preparing to leave the place, I turned and inspected those street lamps one last time.

All insects were gone. None of them could be found flying around the street lamps. I checked the other street lamps in the Sports Center and there were no insects anymore. It was less than one hours' time and should not be happened so fast.

When I left the Sports Center finally and drove around the corner and turned to outside streets, there were no insects too. And when I left the southern part of the Hong Kong Island and turned to the Central area, it was all the same. No insects.

It should not be caused by my laser pointer. As the area was too far away, a small laser pointer cannot reach the atmosphere in such a short time.

What had happened in that one hour? It remained a mystery in my memory for a long time.

There was a news about the locust attack recently in India, Pakistan and other countries. It could be an outbreak of another global disaster to come. And it occurred to me suddenly several things.

I do not think the grand amount of locust attacks can be eliminated by laser weapons, although it should be given a try.

My points are:

1.
All these global disasters were but in one purpose, that humans should be working together to handle it. It will drive the humans to evolve in a collective or co-operative form.    It should not be the problem of one country or one system. It should be a total working aim for all human beings. If they cannot be organized like a big family, they should be working together hand in hand. This may be the second way of our evolution. The first way is our mind. Our mind is evolving more than anything else in our body.

2.
Our older method to handle the problem may be useless. In the past, everyone needs to wait. They are all waiting for the learned scholars and specialists to tell them what to do. And the scholars need more time as anything is not yet proved. Every finding of the scholars need a long processing time.  It seems that if your home is on fire, you can only use certified methods to handle it. You should only use water or CO2 or a blanket to cover the fire. If you have a 4th method, you must first summit it to the higher bodies to prove it. Can we use another method to get away from the disasters? That means, we must change our way of thinking. Or we cannot handle any other big event ahead of us.  Try any means and change our old thinking system.

3.
Act quickly. Do not wait for the locusts to come. some would think, the locusts may not be coming ourway, our country may not be affected. And it was wrong.  Countries can send people to India and Pakistan, but please remember, your people should not be scientists only. You can send other service people to handle the case. They might find out a better method. Try any means and try different people.
