昂山是否美麗?



昂山素姬之美,當今世上,無人能及。如果要選
舉天下第一美人,非她莫屬。

或者,這是緬甸軍政府的成功,把她封鎖多年,
世人已經淡忘。忽然才知道,原來還有她。她比戴安
娜更美,她是甘地和德蘭修女的繼承人。

如果將來軍政府讓路,如果她還有餘下的生命,
世界就有了多一分的希望,多一分的光明。畢竟,她
的美,是從裡面湧出來的。她的美,是人類文化的精
粹,是全世界所有花朵釀成的芳香。

緬甸軍政府本來希望,如果她能離開緬甸,永不回
來,就可以釋放她。但她選擇囚禁。報上說是「軟禁」,
其實是嚴格的單獨囚禁。封鎖新聞,不能說話,但她
毫不妥協。她是無私的。

  世界上,常有黑暗和光明的鬥爭。黑暗似乎是很
可怕。但只要燃起一點燭光,黑暗就失敗。光明是永
遠的勝利者。昂山素姬,是我們的燭光。

以下,是昂山素姬的部份政治見解:抄自 "Freedom
from Fear" 一書。

It is often in the name of cultural integrity,
as well as social stability and national
security, that democratic reforms based on
human rights are resisted by authoritarian
governments. It is insinuated that some of
the worst ills of Western society are the
result of democracy, which is seen as the
progenitor of unbridled freedom and
selfish individualism. It is claimed, usually
without adequate evidence, that democratic
values and human rights run counter to the
national culture and therefore, to be
beneficial, they need to be modified -
perhaps to the extent that they are barely
recognizable. The people are said to be
as yet unfit for democracy; therefore an
indefinite length of time has to pass before
democratic reforms can be instituted.

The first form of attack is often based on
the premise, so universally accepted that it
is seldom challenged or even noticed, that
the United States of America is the
supreme example of democratic culture.
What tends to be overlooked is that
although the USA is certainly the most
important representative of democratic
culture, it also represents many other
cultures, often intricately enmeshed,.
Among these are the "I-want-it-all"
consumer culture, the megacity culture, the
superpower culture, the frontier culture,
immigrant culture. There is also a strong
media culture, which constantly exposes
the myriad problems of American society,
from large issues such as street violence
and drug abuse to the matrimonial
difficulties of minor celebrities. Many of
the worst ills of American society,
increasingly to be found in varying degrees
in other developed countries, can be traced
not to the democratic legacy but to the
demands of modern materialism. Gross
individualism and cut-throat morality arise
when political and intellectual freedoms
are curbed on the one hand while on the
other fierce economic competitiveness is
encouraged by making material success the
measure of prestige and progress. The
result is a society where cultural and
human values are set aside and money
value reigns supreme. No political or social
system is perfect. could such a
powerful and powerfully diverse nation as
the United States have been prevented from
disintegrating if it had not been sustained
by democratic institutions guaranteed by a
constitution based on the assumption that
man's capacity for reason and justice
makes free government possible and that
his capacity for passion and injustice
makes it necessary.

民主的危機何在?

  其實,民主的危機,是和專制的危機一樣的。只是,由於民主制度看似寬鬆,會使人更加失去警惕。
 
  整個社會的方向,未必是政治制度決定的。主要是文化因素決定的。中國由孔子開始的專制,實施了兩千年,從未能走上新的道路。而美國民主制度兩百多年,也是從未能改進,只有朝著物質享受的外在道路,一直走下去。
  
  昂山素姬以為,美國之所以這樣物質化而仍未解體,是民主的功勞。其實她的觀點是錯的。美國的向下之路,從未能扭轉。巨大的危機,正在前面。美國人從未能反省。每一次選舉,美國人以為可以有甚麼轉變了,其實,路是一樣的。而且, 美國正在帶動西方世界,走向同一道路。所有的問題,包括了環境問題,能源問題,貧窮問題, 罪案問題,一點都沒有頭緒。世界上無數大城市,根本不適宜人類居住。比較芬蘭和美國的教育,就更能看出,以美國為首的不平等,在可見的將來,仍是不平等。窮人所能獲得的教育資源,跟富人無法相比。大多數人無法送子女進直資學校,不能送子女留洋出國。只有富人可以繞過會考,直接出洋。而大多數人在欠缺教育資源的同時,更無法保護子女不受社會污染,許多人眼睜睜看著子女走上不歸路,痛苦無法言說。奇怪是很多香港人去抗議某商號不許拍攝,卻沒有人抗議這更加嚴重一萬倍的不平等。至於那甚麼「平機會」,更是毫無作用。
  
  台灣的選舉,亦是一樣。不同的政黨,都偏向從政治觀點看問題。國民黨亦未能擺脫儒家陰影。表面看,國民黨是尊崇孫中山,其實是已經偏離極遠。孫中山批判儒家,批判王陽明,批判知易行難,提倡博愛,提倡天下為公,完全不是儒家的道路。但國民黨人看之不見。一部《建國大綱》,不知道他們是怎樣看的。 
  
  民主是熱鬧的。民主是使人興奮的。民主使人以為,一切問題都可以舉手投票解決。不知道,舉手之前,是應該思考的。
 
  思考甚麼?
 
  無數精英人仕,都正在浪費心力腦力地「思考」。他們以為政治可以解決問題,其實是不可以的。 (問到底 No. 8295, 2012.1.15 星期日)
